My love for music

I've always loved music. And growing up I've been surrounded by a lot of different types of music. My father liked metal, my mom is more into country, my step-dad listened to techno and the radio in the car played the pop hits of the time. I still remember my old radio/cd-player in my bedroom. It stood on top of a tiny closet in front of a mirror. And for my birthday I got a couple of brand new cds to add to my collection. Most of them were childrens songs, but I also had one cd full of classical music that I used to practice my ballet dances to. When I got older a Katy Perry cd joined my collection. I still have most of my cds from that time.

Years later I got an Ipod for my birthday. So I could listen to music on the bus to school. And I also got a speaker to continue listening in my bedroom. My radio gathered dust in the corner of my room as I fell in love with my Ipod. But now, years later and my Ipod has broken down, I still have that radio and occasionally it gets used to play some old cds. But my Ipod got the most use, I kept so many songs in there. And as I got older the types of songs kept changing. It had my chemical romance when I was 14 years old, and I even found songs from Radiohead that I had forgotten that I loved.

After a while I got my first Iphone and I started using Spotify. It was easier than buying a song or album every time I wanted to be able to listen to a new song. Sadly I deleted every playlist I made before 2020. So I'll never know exactly what songs I listened to between first using spotify and 2020. But after that point I kept every song I ever liked in one giant playlist (that's now over 800 songs long).

About half a year ago I started downloading albums to my phone. I got tired of all the ads on spotify (I have never had premium and I'll never buy it). So my favorite albums are on my phone, and I can always listen to them without ads or the fear that they will be deleted.

About my favorite songs

I listen to a lot of music. And when I'm waiting for my next class to start, riding the train home or just listening in my bedroom I listen to music. Over the years I've made it a challenge to listen to a song, memorise the lyrics and try to find the meaning behind it. It doesn't work with every song. Not every song makes a reference to a movie, mentions another song by the same singer or even a cohesive storyine within the album. But with the songs that do have them, I always try to find it. So over the years I've made an analysis (if you can call it that) for a lot of songs. And why not share that work with other people? So that's why I created this page in my website. It's just a passion project to show my love for music. You can select a song on the right side of this page, and read my thoughts of the song and the lyrics. I'll also link the song so you can listen to it yourself.

I'll also try to translate every song into dutch, because that's my native language. And that way I hope to make the songs more accessible to dutch people, or to give people that are learning dutch a nice translation of my favorite songs. (Also because according to my teachers I need to write more in dutch, and this way I get motivated to pratice.)
